On December 31st, Suzhou experienced rainy weather. Near the intersection of major roads, a row of red L-shaped flood barrier appeared on the street surface. The flood control barrier was connected together to form a line, effectively separating accumulated water from the roadway. On the inside of the water barriers, accumulated water flowed into the drainage wells along the arranged blocking direction; On the other side of the quick dam water barrier, the vehicle can maintain smooth movement.
Suzhou Drainage Group staff introduced that since entering the flood season, some low-lying streets have accumulated water, affecting the passage of vehicles. To this end, the Drainage Group has recently purchased a batch of freestanding flood barrier in an attempt to alleviate the traffic obstacles caused by rainwater accumulation on the streets.
The staff said that they had conducted relevant drills before, and today the water blocking barrier was unveiled and put into use. The Drainage Company quickly launched relevant operation procedures and went to work to drain water according to the requirements of the plan:
One is to set up warning fences, flashing lights to warn passing vehicles to drive slowly;
Secondly, open drainage facilities to increase the flow rate of water discharge and quickly remove accumulated water;
The third is to use water blocking barriers to effectively intercept accumulated water on the road, control the accumulated water within the waterproof board area, slow down the spread of accumulated water to the road, and ensure the safety and traffic rate of vehicles;
Fourthly, temporary traffic control measures will be implemented in flooded areas to assist traffic police departments in directing traffic;
The fifth is to install drainage units and carry out drainage operations on natural water bodies.
Is the L-shaped water deflector really that magical?
According to the staff of the drainage company, the flood barrier system is designed in an L-shape, where the weight of the oncoming water is pressed onto the bottom of the plate, converting the weight into pressure. Even if the accumulated water rises to the top of the flood barrier, the L-shaped road safety barrier can still firmly stand on the road surface and play a water blocking role without tipping over. The higher the water level, the more reliable the water blocking effect. Although there may be a small amount of water leakage in the water blocking plate, we have placed sandbags around it to further block water leakage.
